ABPA has moved from Meetup to OpenSports.net for booking into pickleball sessions! OpenSports is a much cleaner and easier interface for both users and admins. It is a Web and App platform for Android and iOS.
Why Join OpenSports?
We use OpenSports to control player numbers. It is compulsory to book in each time you wish to play. If you turn up without having RSVP’d to a session through OpenSports or at least contacted us to see if there is a spot available for you, you unfortunately won’t be allowed to play. You will need to join OpenSports before booking in for the first time.
Best OpenSports features:
- If a player cancels their registration by the “cancellation deadline” they automatically receive a credit to their group-specific account credit.
- OpenSports has an ordered waitlist that allows players to immediately get notified when a spot opens for them!
- Players can filter events eg. You can click on “INDOOR” or “OUTDOOR” if you only wish to see those events.
How to join the ABPA OpenSports group via the Web:
- Send an email to mail@avalonbeachpickleball.org.au to request an invitation to join the ABPA OpenSports group. You will be sent an email inviting you to join our private OpenSports group.
- Open the email and click on the “Join Group” button. Enter your details to sign up. NOTE: It’s best to sign up using your email address, because if you sign up via Facebook and you didn’t share your email or if you disabled email notifications, then you won’t get important emails.
- You will be sent a verification email. Click on “Verify account” in your email. You will be automatically returned to OpenSports.
- Click on “Join Group”. You will receive a “Congrats” message and you’ll be taken to the ABPA OpenSports page.
- Click on “Events” further down the page to book in.

- Open the app and enter your details.
- You will be sent a verification email. Click on “Verify account” in your email.
- Enter your location and you should be taken to the ABPA events. When you book into an event for the first time, you will automatically become a member of the ABPA OpenSports group. Before doing so you will be required to accept a waiver.
